Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, born on March 26, 1991 often referred to professionally by the name Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and was the first female to sign for J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. On October 21, 2016, she released Pho, her first EP on the label Dreamville Records. This was when she first gained notoriety. Her debut album Shea Butter Baby was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox began uploading her music on the internet back in 2012 after she launched her debut mixtape, Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography in 2013. In 2014, Ari Lennox dropped her single Bound and the mixtape she self-released, Five Finger Discount. The 21st day of July, the 21st of July in 2015 Omen included her in Elephant Eyes song"Sweat It Out. In the following year, her music circulated around the Dreamville group as J. Cole wanted her to work with him on some potential references to Rihanna. It was announced on the 8th of December she signed with Dreamville Records. Backseat was a track she recorded with Cozz for the collaborative album Revenge of the Dreamers II. On October 21, 2016 her EP Pho was released. Ari Lennox performed the song Change by J. Cole as well as opening the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017 in which she was joined by EarthGang. She also appeared on the songs Nothing but the Best by EarthGang as well as Icarus along with Bas, her labelmates. Ari Lennox debuted her first single, Shea Butter Baby, Whipped Cream on the 16th of July in 2018. The music video later released in September. In November, she released her singles 40 Shades of Choke & Grampa. The 13th of November, she came out with two additional singles, One and Pedigree. One and Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby. Shea Butter Baby was then able to make appearances in the Creed II album soundtrack alongside Cole. She dropped this single as a way to celebrate her debut album titled Creed II on 26 February 2019. A music video debuted on February 20, 2019 in conjunction with the song. Within the first week, it had over 3 million views. In support of the track she performed in concert with 6LACK in December of 2018 for their From East Atlanta With Love Tour.
